Trustee Vacancy

We are currently seeking to appoint a Trustee to join the QVSR Board and are particularly interested in hearing from applicants who have a passion and time for working for a charity and who have one or more of the following skills/experience:

  • Knowledge or interest in the Maritime sector/Merchant Navy
  • Knowledge of Methodism or other church structures
  • Knowledge of charity finance, HR/employment law or IT systems
  • A strong understanding of governance and the charity sector

The Board of Trustees meets 4 times a year to provide strategic direction, oversight of the work of the charity and to give support to the Chief Executive and the Senior Management Team.  Alongside these meetings are additional sub-committees, an annual away day and other ad hoc events. This is a voluntary position and expenses incurred will be reimbursed.

QVSR, the Seamen’s Mission of the Methodist Church, was first established in 1843 to support seafarers and their families in the Port of London.  Today QVSR continues to support retired seafarers and has expanded its work to include ex-servicemen and other men in need of assistance through the provision of accommodation and welfare support in the East End of London.  Additionally, QVSR manages seafarers’ centres based along the River Thames and provides support to seafarers coming into the Port of Tilbury and DP World London Gateway.  In 2022 QVSR will be expanding its work to support seafarers in the ports of Bristol, Felixstowe and Immingham.

Welfare Assistant – Aftercare Services

QVSR is currently recruiting for an Aftercare Services – Welfare Assistant. This role provide support to residents transitioning to independent living by offering ongoing support in order to minimise the risk of returning to homelessness. The post holder will assess needs and put appropriate interventions in place for services users adopting a person-centred approach in the development of support plans.

General Assistant – Housekeeping

We are currently recruiting for a Housekeeper to join our Accommodation Services team.

The role of the General Assistant – Housekeeping is a domestic cleaning role in which the post holder will be required to perform general cleaning duties throughout the QVSR building and In particular cleaning the rooms of the QVSR residents on a regular basis, helping to promote a high level of cleanliness and hygiene on a daily basis.

Assistant Night Duty Manager

This role is a waking nights role in which the individual will be required to work 8pm till 8am 4 nights on 4 nights off.

The post holder will be required to build effective relationships with QVSR service users and create an environment conducive to maximising their quality of life and independence

In addition by taking on a porterage role they are required to maintain the agreed standards of service, cleanliness, and security of the building at all times.
