Veterans come to QVSR for many different reasons. Some have experienced homelessness following relationship breakdown, financial difficulties, illness, injury or the lasting effects of PTSD. Whether they need temporary or long-term accommodation, we provide a safe place to live, alongside the support they need to move forward.
QVSR has been supporting veterans of the Armed Forces since the end of the First World War. We are an Associate Member of COBSEO, the Confederation of Service Charities, and we are a signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant.
Our dedicated Veterans Support Officer acts as a central point of contact, coordinating and promoting support for the Armed Forces community.
In association with the League of Remembrance we offer volunteering opportunities for veterans at our weekly drop-in centre. This promotes wellbeing and reduces social isolation, building confidence and a renewed sense of purpose through helping others.
Funding from the Royal British Legion, the Veterans Accommodation Fund and the Veterans Foundation enabled us to create accommodation for 23 veterans as part of our major refurbishment programme in 2011 and 2014. QVSR is currently working with the Armed Forces Covenant Trust Fund and has secured £560,000 to develop a further 8 veterans’ rooms at QVSR House.
