Our origins of looking after active seafarers began in the Port of London, and over time developments with the shipping industry, in containerisation and technology, meant that our work expanded further along the Thames to the Ports of Tilbury and DP World London Gateway in Essex.
In July 2022, further expansion has led us to oversee the management of the seafarers centres in Felixstowe, Bristol, and Immingham. Alongside those at Tilbury and DP World London Gateway, they form a new subsidiary company “QVSR Seafarers Centres”.
In each of the ports we work in partnership with other Mission Societies and the local community to support seafarers health and wellbeing whilst they are in port. After spending many months at sea our seafarers centres aim to provide a place where seafarers can take time away from the ship and relax in more homely and comfortable surroundings.
For those who do not have time to leave ship, our Port Chaplains at London Tilbury and Bristol will visit them aboard their vessel to provide pastoral care and companionship, and access to wi-fi.
Our colleagues from Apostleship of the Sea and Mission to Seafarers work alongside us providing chaplaincy at London Tilbury, Felixstowe, Bristol and Immingham.
We would welcome your support whether this be in the form of donations (monetary or goods such as toiletries or clothing) or as a volunteer. For more information of how you can help us please contact our Centre Managers.

QVSR Chaplaincy
QVSR has worked in the Port of London since 1843 providing chaplaincy services to seafarers and their families. In recent times we have been expanding our chaplaincy operation and we now have chaplains based in Bristol and London Tilbury. Chaplains provide pastoral support and welfare services both onshore at the seafarers’ centres and aboard the ships.
